The Largest Lotteries You Can Play in Canada

There are numerous lotto games and large lotteries in Canada to choose from. Some are more popular than others, known for the millions of dollars given away in jackpots. They also make everyday Canadians instantly rich by drawing the winning numbers.

While dozens of smaller lotteries exist in each province and nationwide, you’re likely interested in those with big prize pools. The sizeable multi-million dollar jackpots make them highly attractive to many Canadians. These are the largest lotteries in Canada and their characteristics.

1. Lotto Max

Lotto Max is the second largest lottery in Canada, held every Tuesday and Friday. Its jackpot starts at $10 million. Like several lotteries, the jackpot rolls over to the next draw if there isn’t a winning ticket on a particular occasion. Once the amount accumulates, that’s where you get these massive jackpots.

Lotto Max works by choosing seven numbers from 1 to 50. You receive free play in the next draw if you match at least three of the seven numbers. Cash prizes range from $20 to tens of millions of dollars.

2. Lotto 6/49

Lotto 6/49 is Canada’s largest lottery. It has the most players, mainly because it’s been around since the 1980s. Lotto 6/49 was the first lotto in Canada to allow players to choose their numbers. To play, six numbers are chosen between 1 and 49.

Lotto 6/49 jackpots are $5 million and above, depending on whether the prior draw’s jackpot is rolled over. Match at least two of your six numbers and win a free ticket. Prizes start at $5. There is also a guaranteed $1 million payout that runs alongside every other prize draw.

3. Powerball

There are also American lotteries to play in Canada, like the Powerball Lottery. As a Canadian resident, there are no restrictions on playing. However, remember that not all US lotteries work like this on POWERBALL SITE

Powerball is well-known across North America as one of the largest lotteries worldwide. It offers the most significant jackpots in history. Over the years, many Canadians have crossed the border to buy tickets, especially when a big Powerball jackpot is announced. Some participants are so eager that they’d wait in line for hours to purchase tickets. Fortunately, you can easily buy tickets online in Canada. Canadians can get the latest Powerball lottery numbers and information on powerball.ca.

4. The Daily Grand

The Daily Grand is a lottery in which the winner receives $1,000 daily for life, guaranteed over 20 years. They can take the daily $1,000 prize as arranged or choose a $7 million lump sum. Pick five numbers between 1 and 49 to win, plus a grand number between 1 and 7. The cost to play is $3, and the draw occurs Monday and Thursday.

To win the jackpot, you must get the grand number and match all five numbers. There are secondary prizes, such as $25,000 per year for life, when you match your five digits but no grand number.

5. Ontario 49

Ontario 49 is one of several regional lotteries in Canada. Notably, it offers a high jackpot at $2 million. In addition, secondary prizes range from free tickets to $50,000.

Ontario 49 is hosted by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, or OLG. To win, a player must match all six numbers from a six-number selection they choose between 1 and 49. Tickets are only $1 to play, and draws occur twice weekly. It is very similar to Lotto 6/49 and has comparable winning odds.

6. BC 49

The BC/49 is designed like the Ontario 49, with a $2 million jackpot on the line. It is hosted by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. Much like Ontario 49, which is available exclusively in Ontario, BC 49 is designed for BC residents only. The draw occurs Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets are only $1, and it is played similarly, with a player selecting six numbers between 1 and 49.

Additionally, BC 49 offers a few different ways to play. It Double Play, allowing the purchaser to buy a Lotto 6/49 ticket simultaneously. It also provides lotto subscriptions, group play, and advance buys.

7. Other Canadian Lotteries

There are other regional lotteries in Canada. For instance, Atlantic 49 is played in the Maritime provinces twice weekly and has a $1 million jackpot. Likewise, Quebec 49 is a similar concept to the other 49 games and has a $2 million jackpot.
